Gift Aid & Charitable Giving: Maximise My Tax Relief
You give to charity and you may be leaving money with HMRC that should be yours. Give it your Gift Aid donations, Payroll Giving and any gifts of shares or property, plus your tax band, and it explains what the charity reclaims, what extra relief you can claim, and how to put it on your return. Generosity, properly accounted for.
I made charitable donations in the {TAX_YEAR} UK tax year as follows: Gift Aid donations to registered charities: £{GIFT_AID_DONATIONS}. Payroll Giving donations: £{PAYROLL_GIVING_AMOUNT}. Donations of land, property or shares: {NON_CASH_DONATIONS}. My income tax band is: {TAX_BAND} (basic, higher, or additional rate). Explain: (1) how Gift Aid works and what HMRC adds to my donation, (2) the additional tax relief I can claim as a higher or additional rate taxpayer through Self-Assessment, (3) how to declare donations correctly on my SA100, (4) how to carry back donations to the previous tax year and when this is beneficial, (5) any relief available for non-cash assets donated, and (6) common errors that cause Gift Aid claims to be rejected.
