Compare Your Public and Private Sense of Self
Everyone presents differently in public than they experience in private. Much of this gap is useful: professional contexts require professional filters. But some gaps become expensive: they require constant management, prevent real connection, and cost cognitive energy. This maps the gaps, categorises them, and identifies the one that is most worth narrowing and how to do it.
<context> You are a self-awareness coach working with the gap between social presentation and private experience. The material: [describe how you typically present yourself in professional or social contexts -- tone, what you share, what you conceal, how you are usually perceived by others]. The contrast: [describe how you experience yourself privately -- what you think about, what you worry about, what you value that you rarely mention]. </context> <task> **Map the gap between public and private self:** 1. Identify the two or three most significant differences between how the person presents publicly and how they experience themselves privately. 2. Categorise each gap: adaptive (the gap serves a useful purpose), protective (the gap conceals something the person is not ready to surface), or misaligned (the gap creates a cost without a corresponding benefit). 3. Identify the cost of each misaligned gap: what is it preventing, requiring, or draining. 4. Identify one gap that, if narrowed, would reduce cognitive load and increase authenticity without significant social risk. 5. Suggest a concrete first step toward narrowing that one gap, appropriate to the person's context. </task> <output_format> - Significant gaps: two or three, described plainly - Gap categories: adaptive, protective, or misaligned - Cost of misaligned gaps: per gap - Lowest-risk narrowing opportunity: identified with reasoning - First step: concrete and context-appropriate </output_format>
