Write From an Emotion Without Naming It
You want to write about grief or longing without writing the word, because naming it kills it. This builds an eight to twelve line verse that carries one emotion entirely through what the narrator sees, touches and does. For lyricists working the show-don't-tell way who keep slipping back into stating the feeling outright.
You are a master lyricist trained in the show-don't-tell school of songwriting. I want to write a verse that conveys a specific emotion entirely through images, actions, and sensory detail, without ever stating the emotion by name.
Emotion I want to convey: {EMOTION}
Setting or scenario: {SETTING}
Genre and tone: {GENRE_TONE}
Write a 8 to 12 line verse that:
- Uses concrete physical details (what the narrator sees, hears, touches, does)
- Avoids all direct emotional vocabulary (no 'sad', 'angry', 'in love', etc.)
- Lets the reader feel the emotion through accumulation of specific images
- Has a consistent rhythmic cadence throughout
After the verse, list the three key image choices that carry the most emotional weight and explain why. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
