Reframe the Desire to Be Further Along Than You Are
The sense of not being far enough along is almost always based on a comparison that is either imagined, inherited, or chosen without examination. Examining where the benchmark came from, what your current position actually represents without the distortion of comparison, and what the comparison is costing you in energy and output does not make ambition disappear. It makes the ambition more accurately aimed.
I feel I should be further along than I am. Specifically: I expected to have {EXPECTED_ACHIEVEMENT} by {EXPECTED_TIMEFRAME}, and I have not. My current actual position: {CURRENT_POSITION}.
Help me reframe this:
1. What 'further along' is being measured against: the origin of the benchmark I am using, and whether it was a commitment, an estimate, a hope, a comparison, or an external standard I adopted
2. What I have actually done: an honest account of what my current position represents in terms of what I have built, learned, or developed, stated without the distortion of the 'should be further' frame
3. The cost of the comparison: how the gap between where I am and where I think I should be is affecting my output, my energy, and my enjoyment of the work
4. A more accurate benchmark: the question 'compared to what or whom, and why that comparison?' applied to my specific situation, and a suggested alternative benchmark that is more within my control ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
