Admiring a photography style and understanding what makes it work are different things. The visual principles that define a style, the technical approaches that produce them, and the non-technical understanding that separates a convincing version from a copy are all learnable, but they need to be stated explicitly. This breaks down the principles behind a specific style or photographer, tells you what to practise first, and names two bodies of work to study for deeper understanding.
