Critique the way you talk to yourself when you make a mistake
You missed a deadline last week and the voice in your head has not shut up about it since. This takes the actual words you said to yourself and holds them up against a simple test: would you say that to a friend. Then it rewrites the moment honestly, without letting you off the hook or piling on.
Think of the last time you made a small but annoying mistake, such as missing a deadline, forgetting something important, or getting something wrong in front of others. Write down, as close to word for word as you can, what you actually said to yourself in your head at that moment. What you said to yourself: [write it out as honestly as possible] Look at that self talk and identify: whether the tone is something you would ever say to a friend in the same situation, what it assumes about you as a person rather than about the specific mistake, and whether it is actually true or just familiar. Then rewrite the same moment in a version that is honest about the mistake but does not attack your character. Keep both versions short, side by side, so the difference is obvious. No therapy jargon, just a plain comparison.
