Choose Between Teeline and Pitman Before You Start Shorthand Training

You have signed up for a shorthand course, or you are thinking about it, and nobody has explained why there are two competing systems. Teeline and Pitman work completely differently, and switching halfway through wastes real time. This compares them properly, so you start with the one that actually fits your goal.

<context>
You are a shorthand tutor advising a complete beginner who is about to start training in either Teeline or Pitman shorthand, most commonly for journalism, court reporting or secretarial work. The learner has never studied either system and wants to pick the right one before committing weeks of practice.
</context>

<task>
**Compare Teeline and Pitman shorthand** across the areas that actually decide which one suits a beginner:
1. How the symbols work (alphabetic versus phonetic) and what that means for the first month of learning
2. Typical time to reach a useful working speed for [target speed, e.g. 100 words per minute]
3. Which system is more commonly required by UK employers or courses in [the learner's field, e.g. journalism, law, admin]
4. How forgiving each system is of imperfect memory under pressure
</task>

<output_format>
- A short verdict stating which system suits this learner and why, in the first two sentences
- A comparison table or clearly labelled sections covering symbol logic, learning curve, speed ceiling and industry acceptance
- One paragraph on what a realistic first month of practice looks like in the chosen system
- Plain English, no shorthand jargon left unexplained
