CRAAP Test: Evaluate Any Source in 5 Dimensions
Before a source goes in your bibliography it's worth knowing whether it earns its place. Give the citation or link and your topic, and this runs the CRAAP test across five dimensions, currency, relevance, authority, accuracy and purpose, scoring each with a short justification so you cite with confidence rather than hope.
Apply the CRAAP test to evaluate the following source for use in academic research. The source is: {SOURCE_CITATION_OR_URL}. My research topic is: {RESEARCH_TOPIC}.
For each dimension, give a score of 1 to 5 and a one-sentence justification:
1. Currency: how recent is the information and does recency matter for this topic?
2. Relevance: how closely does it match my research topic and audience?
3. Authority: what are the credentials of the author or publisher?
4. Accuracy: is the information supported by evidence, citations, or data?
5. Purpose: what is the intent behind the source (inform, sell, persuade)?
Finish with an overall recommendation: Include, Use with Caution, or Exclude. Explain your reasoning in two to three sentences. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
