Annotate and Unpack a Difficult Passage
Some passages stop you dead: too dense, too allusive, or just doing three things at once. Paste the passage with its title and author and it annotates in three passes: a plain paraphrase of what's literally happening, the allusions and references underneath, then the deeper meaning. Suits anyone wrestling with a hard book who'd rather understand it than skim past.
Here is a passage from {BOOK_TITLE} by {AUTHOR_NAME} that I find difficult or dense:
"{PASSAGE}"
Please annotate it for me in three passes. First pass: a plain-language paraphrase, what is literally happening or being said, sentence by sentence. Second pass: a layer of contextual notes, any allusions, historical references, or narrative callbacks I need to understand what's going on beneath the surface. Third pass: an interpretive reading, what is the author doing here stylistically, and what does this passage contribute to the book's larger meaning? End with a single sentence that captures the passage's emotional or thematic core. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
