Plan a Pension Consolidation Strategy for Multiple Old Pots
Change jobs a few times and you collect pension pots like loyalty cards, half of them forgotten, all charging fees. List them out, provider, value, type and charges, and this works through whether consolidating makes sense, what you'd gain on cost and admin, and what valuable features you might lose by merging them.
I have accumulated several old workplace pensions and want to decide whether to consolidate them. Here is my current position:
- Pension 1: {POT1_PROVIDER}, value {POT1_VALUE}, type {POT1_TYPE}, annual charges {POT1_CHARGES}%
- Pension 2: {POT2_PROVIDER}, value {POT2_VALUE}, type {POT2_TYPE}, annual charges {POT2_CHARGES}%
- Pension 3: {POT3_PROVIDER}, value {POT3_VALUE}, type {POT3_TYPE}, annual charges {POT3_CHARGES}%
- My age: {AGE}, planned retirement age: {RETIREMENT_AGE}
For each pot, assess: whether it carries any valuable guarantees (guaranteed annuity rates, defined benefit rights, protected tax-free cash), the drag of current charges versus a modern low-cost platform, and the administrative benefit of consolidation. Produce a ranked recommendation (merge, keep, or investigate further) with clear reasoning for each pot. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
