Reframe Chronic Lateness as a Solvable Systems Problem Rather Than a Character Flaw
You know you are consistently late and you have already decided to be on time multiple times and it has not worked. This reframes the problem as structural: what assumption your lateness pattern is built on, what specifically breaks down before each commitment, and one system change that addresses the actual cause rather than the symptom.
You are consistently late: to meetings, to events, to starting tasks. You have been told it is a bad habit or a sign of disrespect and you have tried to fix it by deciding to be on time, which has not worked. Reframe it as a systems problem. Work through: 1. What specifically is the most common pattern of lateness? (Late to leave, poor time estimation, transition delays, underestimating journey time) 2. What does your internal timeline look like before a commitment? (When do you start preparing, and what typically interrupts that) 3. What does the pattern reveal about the assumption you are making? (Most chronic lateness comes from one of three assumptions: the task or journey is shorter than it is, the current task is more important than it is, or starting early is wasteful) 4. One system change that addresses the specific assumption your pattern reveals 5. Reframe: what would change about your day if you treated transitions as tasks that need scheduling, not gaps between tasks? Write two to three sentences per section.
