Reframe Burnout as Information About Structural Problems, Not Personal Failure
Burnout tends to be framed as a personal resilience problem. The standard advice is to rest, exercise, and set boundaries. This reframes it first: what specific conditions have produced it, whether they are temporary or structural, and what the burnout is communicating about what is missing. Then it asks for one thing to change in the next two weeks.
You are experiencing burnout or the early signs of it: persistent exhaustion, growing detachment, declining performance, and a sense that nothing you do matters. Reframe the experience as diagnostic information about the structures around you, not about your capacity or resilience. Work through: 1. Name the specific conditions that have built the burnout. Not "too much work" but what specifically: unpredictable demands, no clear end point, inadequate recovery time, work that feels meaningless, or a lack of control over your own priorities. 2. What the specific conditions reveal about what is missing: autonomy, adequate resourcing, role clarity, recognition, or psychological safety. 3. Whether the conditions are temporary (current project, phase of work) or structural (the nature of the role or organisation). 4. What one thing you could change or remove in the next two weeks to interrupt the pattern, even slightly. 5. Reframe: what is the burnout telling you that you have been too busy to hear? Write two to three sentences per section.
