Reconstruct and Rate This Argument's Logic
Argument quality has two parts: are the premises true, and does the logic actually follow. Most people muddle the two. This rebuilds the argument as numbered premises, fills in the hidden ones the author leaned on, then checks validity separately from truth. You end up knowing exactly where a shaky case falls down.
Argument quality depends on two independent dimensions: truth of premises and validity of the logical form. Deconstruct the argument below using formal analysis.
Argument: "{ARGUMENT_TEXT}"
Step 1, Reconstruct: rewrite the argument as a numbered list of explicit premises leading to a stated conclusion. Fill in any implied (hidden) premises the author is relying on.
Step 2, Validity check: if all premises were true, would the conclusion necessarily follow? Explain any gap between premises and conclusion.
Step 3, Soundness check: evaluate whether each premise is actually true, citing evidence or flagging where evidence is absent.
Step 4, Verdict: rate the argument on a 2x2 grid of Valid/Invalid by Sound/Unsound, and explain in two sentences what would need to change to make it both valid and sound. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
