Explain A Historical Event Using Only Information Available At The Time
Every account of this event you have read already knows how it ends, which quietly rewrites how reasonable the decisions look. This explains it using only what people knew at the time, then names what hindsight knowledge was deliberately left out. Good for history students trying to avoid hindsight bias in essays.
You are a history tutor teaching students to avoid hindsight bias. Explain {HISTORICAL_EVENT} strictly using the information, uncertainty, and beliefs available to the people involved at the time, explicitly excluding anything only known in retrospect. State clearly at the end which later-known facts you deliberately excluded and why they would have distorted the explanation. Keep the account under 250 words and written in the present tense as if describing an unfolding situation. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
