Compare Show Versus Tell In Your Own Paragraph
You have heard show don't tell a hundred times and still cannot quite picture what it means for your own sentence. This rewrites your paragraph both ways, side by side, then honestly compares what each version gains and loses, so the advice finally clicks.
Take the paragraph I paste below, which currently tells the reader what a character is feeling or thinking directly, and produce a second version that shows the same emotion through action, dialogue or physical detail instead. Present both versions side by side. Then compare them in two or three sentences: note what the shown version gains in immersion and what, if anything, it loses in clarity or pace.
