Plan the Revelation Pacing of a Crime Fiction Plot
A crime plot lives or dies on who knows what and when. This builds a revelation plan across your chapter count: what the reader knows by each quarter, what the protagonist knows separately, what stays hidden and why, plus a misdirection beat to keep suspicion moving. Give it your central crime and your detective.
I am plotting a crime fiction novel. My central crime is {CRIME_DESCRIPTION} and my detective or protagonist is {PROTAGONIST_DESCRIPTION}.
Create a structured revelation pacing plan across a {CHAPTER_COUNT}-chapter novel. For each story quarter, specify:
- What the reader knows by the end of that quarter
- What the protagonist knows (which may differ)
- What must remain concealed and why
- One misdirection beat to plant in that quarter
- The emotional question driving the reader forward
Also flag the optimal placement of: the midpoint reversal, the false resolution, and the final reveal. Distinguish between information given to the reader versus information withheld from both reader and protagonist. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
