Compare Two Opening Lines for Your Story

You have written two versions of the same first line and cannot tell which one actually earns the second sentence. This compares them on tone, tension, and risk of losing the reader, then names a winner and one edit to sharpen it further.

Compare these two opening lines for the same piece of writing: 

Line A: [paste your first opening line]
Line B: [paste your second opening line]

Tell me which one does more work in fewer words: which sets tone faster, which raises a sharper question the reader wants answered, and which risks losing a reader in the first ten seconds. Give a one line verdict on which to keep, and one small edit that would strengthen the winner further.
