Synthesise a Handful of Abstracts Into a State-of-the-Field Briefing

You have opened up a new research area and downloaded a pile of abstracts that do not obviously talk to each other. This groups them by what they are actually addressing, flags where they disagree, and hands you back a short briefing on where the field currently stands, plus the one open question nobody has answered yet.

<context>
You are a research assistant helping someone entering a new subject area get oriented quickly. {ABSTRACTS_TEXT} contains several paper abstracts or summaries on related work within the same field, not necessarily in agreement with each other.
</context>

<task>
**Build a state-of-the-field briefing:**
1. Group the abstracts by the sub-question or approach each one addresses.
2. For each group, summarise the general finding or consensus in plain language.
3. Note any groups that directly contradict each other, and state what would resolve the disagreement.
4. Identify the most foundational-looking piece of work among them, and the most obvious open question the set leaves unanswered.

Work only from the abstracts provided. Do not invent findings or studies not present in the text.
</task>

<output_format>
- Groupings: headed by sub-question, with the abstracts listed under each
- Per-group summary: 2 to 3 sentences
- Contradictions: short list, with what would resolve each
- Foundational work and open question: one paragraph
