Decide on the Right Approach to a Team Restructure
A restructure is looming, and the temptation is to draw the org chart first and sort out the work later. That's backwards. Tell it the team size and why you are reorganising, and this walks the decision through in the right order, designing from the work outward. For senior managers and directors facing a reshuffle they want to get right.

Design from the work, not from the people: what capabilities does the team need to deliver the strategy? 2. Options: functional structure, product/project-aligned structure, matrix, or hybrid 3. People impact: who is at risk, who benefits, and how to be fair and transparent 4. Change management: what will people actually lose (status, certainty, relationships) and how to address that 5. Communication sequence: who needs to know what, in which order </task> <output_format> - Design principles: three criteria that the final structure must meet - Options comparison: two to three structural options with pros, cons, and fit assessment - People impact map: roles affected and how - Communication plan: sequence and key messages for each audience </output_format>
