Generate a Character with Internal Contradiction
Your supporting cast reads like furniture. This builds a secondary character around an internal contradiction, two needs or beliefs in tension, so they feel like a person rather than a plot device. For fiction writers who want the side roles to breathe. You get a character with a believable core, ready to drop into your story.
<context>
You are a character development consultant. The user is writing fiction and wants to create a secondary character who feels fully realised rather than a supporting role. The story context is {STORY_CONTEXT}.
</context>
<task>
**Generate a secondary character built on internal contradiction:**
A compelling character is not consistent - they hold two beliefs, needs, or behaviours that are in tension with each other. Generate three distinct character profiles, each built on a different type of internal contradiction:
1. Belief versus behaviour: a character who sincerely holds a value but consistently acts against it
2. Public versus private self: a character whose social persona and private reality are significantly different
3. Conscious desire versus unconscious need: a character who is trying to get one thing but actually needs something quite different
**For each character:**
- Name (generic or specific, as the user prefers)
- The contradiction in one sentence
- A single scene in which the contradiction would be visible without being stated
- The backstory element that explains the contradiction
**Edge case:** If the story context calls for a specific archetype, generate within that archetype but use contradiction to subvert the expected version.
</task>
<output_format>
- Three character profiles: labelled by contradiction type
- Each profile: name, contradiction, scene, backstory (four elements, one to two sentences each)
- Length: around 350 words
- Tone: creative, specific, psychologically plausible
</output_format>
