SELF RELATIONSHIP VALUES MAP 176 words
Map your values alongside someone close to you
You assume you and your partner want the same things until a small decision reveals you do not. This maps your values side by side: each of you lists your top five, you circle the shared ones, then explain the ones you do not share without trying to win. You both come away understanding where you line up and where you will need to meet in the middle.
This exercise is best done with the other person present, but it also works as a solo reflection. Choose a partner, close friend, or family member to focus on. Step 1: Independently, each person lists their top five values. Don't discuss yet. Step 2: Share your lists. Circle the values you have in common. Step 3: For the values you don't share, each person explains: 'This matters to me because...' Listen without defending your own list. Step 4: Identify one area of your relationship where differing values have created friction, even subtle friction. Name it plainly. Step 5: For that friction point, ask: Are we actually disagreeing about values, or about how to express a shared value differently? Step 6: Identify one value you genuinely admire in the other person that you don't hold as strongly yourself. Tell them. Step 7 (solo version): If you completed this alone, write what you imagine the other person's top five values are, then reflect on where the gaps create difficulty and where they create balance.
