Compare Two Cultures Across Six World-Building Axes
Two cultures meet in your story and you don't want either reduced to a cartoon. This compares them across six axes, showing where each sits and what productive misunderstanding their differences create. Good for writers staging contact or conflict who want both sides to feel real and the friction between them to feel earned.
I am writing a story that brings two distinct cultures into contact or conflict. Help me compare them systematically so I can write their interactions with nuance and avoid making either side a cartoon.
Culture A: {CULTURE_A_DESCRIPTION}
Culture B: {CULTURE_B_DESCRIPTION}
Compare them across these six axes. For each axis, describe where each culture sits and what productive friction or misunderstanding their difference creates:
1. Relationship to time (cyclical vs. linear; short-term vs. long-term thinking)
2. Basis of social trust (kinship, contract, reputation, divine mandate)
3. Attitude toward outsiders (porous, hostile, transactional, indifferent)
4. How knowledge is validated (tradition, empiricism, revelation, consensus)
5. Attitude toward death and the afterlife
6. What counts as a serious insult versus a trivial one
End with one sentence identifying the deepest, least obvious source of incomprehension between them: the thing neither culture realises the other does not share. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
