Fix My Pacing: Fast, Slow, Just Right
Your draft reads unevenly: some bits crawl, others skip past beats the reader needed. This marks the sections that drag, the ones that rush, and the one place pacing lands just right, then rewrites the two worst offenders. Good for writers who can feel something's off with the rhythm but can't pin where.
Read the following passage and assess its pacing. Identify:
- Sections that drag (too much explanation, repetition, or stasis, where a reader's attention would slip)
- Sections that rush (skipped beats, unearned transitions, emotion that is compressed past the point of impact)
- The one moment where the pacing feels exactly right: explain what the writer is doing there and why it works
Then rewrite only the two slowest sentences and the two most rushed transitions. For each rewrite, add a one-sentence note explaining the specific change you made and the effect it creates.
