Build a Bulletproof Thesis Statement
A weak thesis quietly sinks an otherwise decent essay. Give your topic and draft thesis, and this scores it on whether it's arguable, specific, structurally revealing and free of vague language, with a one-line reason for each mark. Then it rewrites the thesis so it earns its place at the top of the essay.
I am writing an essay on the topic: {ESSAY_TOPIC}. My current working thesis is: {DRAFT_THESIS}.
Evaluate my thesis against these criteria: (1) Is it arguable: could a reasonable person disagree? (2) Is it specific enough to guide a focused essay? (3) Does it signal the essay's structure or key reasoning? (4) Is it free of vague language?
For each criterion, give a score (1 to 5) with a one-sentence explanation. Then rewrite my thesis in two alternative versions: one that is more specific and one that is more ambitious in scope. Finally, explain which version you recommend and why. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
