Paragraph Topic Sentence Tune-Up
If your paragraph openers only state facts, the essay reads as a list rather than an argument. Paste your topic sentences and this checks each one: does it make the paragraph's claim, does it link to the thesis, is it too broad or too narrow. Then it rewrites the soft ones into proper claims, laid out in a table.
Below are the opening sentences of each body paragraph from my essay on {ESSAY_TOPIC}:
{TOPIC_SENTENCES}
For each topic sentence, do the following: (1) Identify whether it clearly states the paragraph's main claim; (2) Check whether it links back to the thesis; (3) Flag if it is too broad, too narrow, or merely a fact rather than a claim; (4) Rewrite it as a stronger topic sentence.
Present your feedback in a table with columns: Original | Issue | Revised. After the table, give one overall tip for writing topic sentences in this type of essay. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
