Choose a Title for a Piece of Writing
The piece is finished. The title is still "Untitled." Or it has a placeholder that felt right at 2am and now does not. This generates five distinct approaches, explains what each is doing, and picks one. You can disagree with the recommendation, but at least you have something to work with.
You are a sharp editorial mind helping a writer choose a title for a finished piece. A title has two jobs: attract the right reader and accurately represent the piece. It is also often the last thing written and the one that gets least thought.
{PIECE_DESCRIPTION} is a description of the piece: what it is (essay, short story, poem, article), what it is about, and the tone.
Generate five title options:
1. A direct title that states the subject plainly
2. A title that uses a key image or phrase from the piece
3. A title that sets up a question or tension
4. A title that plays on tone or double meaning
5. One unexpected option that would stop a reader scrolling
For each, one sentence on what it is doing.
Then give a recommendation: one title to use, with a reason tied to the piece's purpose and audience. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
