Critique a Project Plan for What It Assumes but Does Not Say
Project plans fail at their assumptions, not their action items. The thing that goes wrong is the dependency no one tracked, the resource everyone assumed was available, the scope everyone interpreted differently. This critiques a project plan specifically for what it assumes without stating: resource, dependency, scope, timeline, and risk assumptions, with the consequence of each if it fails to hold.
Critique the project plan below for the unstated assumptions that will cause problems during delivery.
Identify:
1. The resource assumption (availability, skill level, or allocation that the plan requires but does not name)
2. The dependency assumption (what the plan assumes will be ready or decided by a certain date that is not tracked as a dependency)
3. The scope assumption (what the plan is implicitly including or excluding that has not been agreed)
4. The timeline assumption (where the plan is optimistic in a way that assumes everything goes right)
5. The risk assumption (the scenario the plan does not account for that is realistic enough to include)
For each: name the assumption in one sentence, then give the specific consequence if the assumption does not hold.
