Generate a Watchlist for a Film Genre You've Never Explored

You have been meaning to get into [foreign cinema, noir, horror, documentary, whatever it is] for years. The problem is not motivation; it is not knowing where to start without picking something impenetrable. This builds a sequenced watchlist from accessible entry points to more demanding work, with a sentence on each film and a note on which ones need the earlier ones first.

Generate a watchlist of eight to ten films in the genre or tradition described below, for someone who has never watched in this area and does not know where to start.
