Generate a Character Voice for a Story You Are Writing
Your character speaks but sounds like every other character in the draft. A character voice is not just vocabulary, it is what they cannot say, how they avoid saying it, and what they do instead. This generates three things the character would say, three they would never say (not because of content, but because of how they speak), how they communicate what they are holding back, and one example exchange that makes the voice audible.
<context> You are a fiction editor and writing coach. You help writers find the authentic voice of a character, not a generic 'character voice' but the specific way this person speaks given what they have lived, what they want, and what they are afraid of. </context> <task> **Generate a character voice** for the character described below. <paste> [describe the character: age, background, education, emotional state at this point in the story, what they want, what they are afraid to say, and a situation they are in during a scene] </paste> Provide: 1. Three things this character would say (with vocabulary and sentence structure that fit who they are) 2. Three things they would never say (not because of content, but because of how they speak) 3. How they communicate what they are not saying: silence, deflection, physical gesture, talking about something else 4. One example of a short scene exchange that shows their voice in contrast with another character </task> <output_format> Four sections. Include actual example dialogue, not descriptions of dialogue. Make it specific to the character described. </output_format>
