Give Each Supporting Character a Distinct Speech Pattern
In your group scenes the supporting cast all sound like the same person taking turns. Give their names and one-line descriptions, and each gets a distinct speech pattern rooted in personality and background, no dialect stereotypes: sentence rhythm, what they leave out, what they over-explain. For writers whose ensemble dialogue blurs together on the page.
My story has {NUMBER} supporting characters who appear together in ensemble scenes. Currently their dialogue feels interchangeable. Here are their names and one-line descriptions: {CHARACTER_LIST}.
For each character, design a distinct speech pattern that reflects their personality and background without resorting to dialect stereotypes or speech impediments. Consider: sentence length and rhythm, what they omit versus over-explain, their relationship to authority and expertise in conversation, favourite logical moves (deflection, analogy, counter-question), and what topic makes them suddenly verbose or suddenly silent. Then write a 6-line group exchange that demonstrates all patterns simultaneously. Each character must be identifiable without a speech tag. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
