Evaluate Whether a Mentor Relationship Is Actually Working
The mentoring sessions are pleasant and you leave them feeling good. That is not the same as leaving them changed. A good mentoring relationship has five markers that distinguish genuine development from agreeable conversation. This assesses each one and gives you a question to ask in the next session that tests whether what you have is the former or the latter.
<context>
You are a learning effectiveness coach helping someone assess whether their current mentoring arrangement with {MENTOR_ROLE} is producing genuine growth or has become a comfortable but stagnant conversation.
</context>
<task>
**Critique** the mentoring relationship across five markers:
1. Challenge level: are conversations pushing the mentee outside their current thinking
2. Specificity: do sessions produce specific actions or general inspiration
3. Accountability: is there any mechanism for following up on previous session commitments
4. Knowledge transfer: is the mentor sharing knowledge that is not otherwise accessible
5. Honest feedback: is the mentor willing to give uncomfortable feedback or only supportive commentary
For each marker, provide a one-sentence assessment and one question to raise in the next session.
