SELF FEAR INVENTORY 167 words
Map your fears instead of running from them
The fears you avoid stay large and shapeless, looming bigger for never being looked at directly. Set a timer for thirty minutes: list every fear that is alive right now, then take the three loudest and ask exactly what you are afraid of, how likely it is, and what you would do if it happened. Naming them shrinks them. You leave with fears you can actually examine.
Avoidance keeps fears large and vague. This exercise makes them small and specific. Set a timer for 30 minutes and work through each section. Part 1, List (5 minutes): Write every fear that is present in your life right now, however large or trivial. Do not judge them. Get them all down. Part 2, Examine each one (15 minutes): For the three fears that feel most alive, answer these questions: - What exactly am I afraid will happen? Describe the scenario in detail. - How likely is this outcome, honestly, on a scale of 1 to 10? - If it did happen, could I survive it? What would I do? - What is this fear protecting me from trying? Part 3, Reframe (10 minutes): - Which of my fears is actually useful information about something I care about? - Which fear has been keeping me small the longest? - What would I do differently this week if this fear lost half its power? End with one sentence: the fear I am willing to act despite.
