SELF VALUES AND TIME 207 words
Find the gap between your stated values and how you spend your time
You say family and health matter most, then look up to find the week went on screens and admin. This audits your time through a values lens: list your top five, estimate last week's hours across work, caregiving, passive scrolling and active leisure, and see where the two disagree. The gap is uncomfortable and useful, and it points straight at what to change.
This is a time audit through a values lens. It works best if you look at a real week, ideally by reviewing a calendar or thinking concretely about the last seven days. Step 1: List your top five values. Write them at the top of a page. Step 2: Estimate how many hours last week you spent in these broad categories: paid work, domestic and caregiving tasks, passive consumption (screens, social media, TV), active leisure (hobbies, exercise, creativity), relationships and connection, rest and recovery, personal growth or learning. Step 3: For each category, ask: which of my top values does this time serve, if any? Step 4: Where is your time most misaligned with your values? Describe the gap plainly. Do not excuse it yet, just name it. Step 5: What gets in the way of spending time on what you say matters most? List the real obstacles, not just 'I'm too busy.' Step 6: Is the misalignment a structural problem (genuine constraints on your time) or a choice problem (you are choosing this with the time you do have)? Be honest. Step 7: Identify one hour this week you could redirect toward a value that is currently underfed. What specifically would you do with it?
