Compare Two Dialogue Styles for the Same Scene
You're not sure which way to pitch a scene: sparse and clipped, or rich and interrupted. This writes your scene twice in two contrasting styles, then compares them so you can feel the difference rather than guess. Good for writers deciding on a voice, or anyone curious how style changes the temperature of a scene.
I want to understand how different stylistic approaches to dialogue change the feel of a scene. Please write the same scene twice using the two contrasting styles described below, then compare them.
Scene: {SCENE_DESCRIPTION}
Characters: {CHARACTERS}
Style A: {STYLE_A} (e.g. sparse, Hemingway-esque, minimal tags, heavy subtext)
Style B: {STYLE_B} (e.g. verbose, character-internal, rich with interruptions and false starts)
For each version, write approximately 150 words of dialogue. Then write a comparison (150 to 200 words) that addresses:
- How each style affects pace and tension
- Which style better serves this type of scene and why
- What a writer gives up by choosing each approach
Present the two versions first, then the comparison. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
