Decision Debrief: Extract the Learning Loop
A decision you made a while back has played out, and you want to learn from it without just judging by the result. Describe the decision and the outcome. It separates process from luck, a good call can land badly and vice versa, then checks whether you had enough information, considered the right options, named your real reasons, and what you'd repeat or change.
I made this decision {TIME_AGO}: {PAST_DECISION}. The outcome was: {OUTCOME}. Run a structured decision debrief with me. Separate process quality from outcome quality: a good decision can have a bad outcome and vice versa. Evaluate: (1) Was the information I had at the time sufficient? (2) Did I consider the right alternatives? (3) Were my stated reasons the real reasons, or were there hidden drivers? (4) What did I predict would happen versus what actually happened and why did they diverge? (5) What one rule or heuristic should I install so I make this class of decision better in future? Present findings in a structured debrief format. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
