Build a Distinct Narrative Voice from Scratch
You're new to essays and haven't found your voice on the page yet. Give it three true things about how you talk and think and one sentence of yours you actually like, and it describes the voice latent in them, its rhythm, its relationship to authority, then helps you build on it. A starting point that sounds like you, not a default.
I am just starting to write personal essays and I don't yet have a strong sense of my own voice on the page. Here are three things that are true about how I talk and think: {THREE_TRAITS}. Here is one sentence I've written that I actually like: {GOOD_SENTENCE}.
Using these as raw material:
1. Describe the voice latent in what I've shared: its possible rhythms, its relationship to authority, its likely tonal register
2. Write one paragraph in that voice about the following topic: {VOICE_TEST_TOPIC}
3. Give me five concrete exercises, each under 15 minutes, I can do this week to develop and trust that voice
Don't give me generic writing advice. Everything should be specific to what I've shared. ⚠ human-in-the-loop: you are responsible for the results of using this prompt, not us.
