Consistency Audit: Character, Voice, and Detail
Across a long draft, details drift: a character's eyes change colour, a timeline doesn't add up, the tone wobbles. This audits for three things, character consistency, voice consistency and factual or detail continuity, and reports every unexplained slip it finds. Good for writers near the end of a long piece who need the contradictions caught before a reader does.
Perform a consistency audit on the following draft. Check for and report on:
1. CHARACTER CONSISTENCY: Any shifts in behaviour, motivation, or stated facts about a character that are not explained by the narrative
2. VOICE CONSISTENCY: Sudden changes in register, diction level, or tone that break the established voice
3. FACTUAL/DETAIL CONSISTENCY: Contradictions in setting, timeline, physical descriptions, or named details
4. TENSE CONSISTENCY: Unintended tense shifts
For each issue found, quote the conflicting passages and propose a resolution. If you find no issues in a category, say so explicitly.
